| Choosing the right touch screen for your applications |
| Resistive Touchscreens | Capacitive Touchscreens | Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW)Technology |
Resistive touchscreens deliver pressure sensitive input so it can respond to any input device, including finger, glove hand, or pen stylus. This feature is often recommended for more demanding workplace applications such as point-of-sale systems, industrial control and medical systems. | Capacitive touchscreens are ideal for applications that require a higher clarity than resistive touch, but only respond to finger contact and will not work with a gloved hand or stylus. This feature has merit in a wide range of applications including point-of-sale, industrial control, and public information kiosks. | A touchscreen equipped with Surface Acoustic Wave technology responds to finger or soft rubber tipped stylus, and features advantages in performance and cost. The SAW screen is a good choice for applications where image clarity is important, but such touchscreen products may not perform well in extremely dirty or dusty environments. It is a durable screen that is widely used in applications such as computer based training and information kiosk displays. |
What is NEMA 4/12 (IP 65)?
Enclosures constructed for either indoor or outdoor use often incorporate NEMA 4/12 in order to provide a degree of protection against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment. These elements may include falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing ware, and hose directed water. NEMA 4/12 also provides a degree of protection against the external formation of ice on the enclosure.
